DC to Retailers: Unplug the Green Lantern Animated Light Up Display

Link
After receiving one report of a fire and several others of smoke, DC has urged retailers who were using the Green Lantern Animated Light Up Display to unplug them for safety reasons. The display is based on the variant cover from Green Lantern #50. The art is by Jim Lee and Scott Williams.

After seeing the video from Bleeding Cool's website, it looks cool, but not worth the $150 price tag. Especially if it's gonna cost a ton more in property damage from a fire.

Here's the video...

Jeff Bridges to Join the R.I.P.D.?

Jeff Bridges is in final negotiations to join Ryan Reynolds in the adaptation of the Dark Horse comic R.I.P.D (Rest In Peace Department). He would play Reynolds wise-cracking partner as they police the afterlife.

Never heard of this title (it came out several years ago), but I kinda like the premise. I'm also a big Jeff Bridges fan and if he gets to be the funny guy to Ryan Reynolds straight man, this SHOULD be good.

Zach Galifianakis was up for the role, but left due to the uncertainty of Reynolds commitment to the project due the possibility of Green Lantern 2 being green-lit (no pun intended) right away. The movie is slated for a 2012 release.

Evans Confirms - New Suit for Cap

When talking to MTV recently, Chris Evans confirmed that the First Avenger will get a new costume for the Avengers movie. He recently did a camera test in the new suit, which he said was "pretty rad." However, he said he was just getting used to the old outfit.

"I was worried because I started to get really attached to the old one. I really started digging it. It's not that easy to move in, but I started really liking it. The first time we tried a new one on, I was like, 'Oh, I miss the old one."

There has been speculation out on the internet on whether or not this would happen. I like the outfit he's wearing, and wonder what the new one will look like. Maybe we'll see something around San Diego time. The movie started filming this week.

The Big Bombshell from Action Comics #900 (spoiler)

You probably have heard by now because everyone is talking about it, even FoxNews, but there was a major event that happened in Action Comics #900 which was released yesterday. No, I'm not talking about the continuation of the Regin of Doomsday (ugh). Superman renounced his U.S, citizenship.

Here's what happened in the story. Superman showed up in Tehran to non-violently support the protesters demonstrating against the Iranian regime. Tthe Iranian government construed his actions as the will of the American Government.

He admits that he should have realized that would be the implications, so he plans to announce at the United Nations that he is no longer an American citizen, but a citizen of Earth. A daring move by the character, the writer (David Goyer - the screenwriter for the upcoming Superman reboot) and for DC as well. What do you make of this? I'm still on the fence about it.

Antje Traue is Ursa, I Mean, Faora in "Man of Steel?"

Deadline and Variety are reporting that actress Antje Traue (Pandorum) is either a leading candidate or has been signed (depends on who you believe) to play Faora, the Kryptonian foe of Superman. It's the basis of this character that Ursa was created for Superman: The Movie and Superman II.

Sigh. It's sounding more and more like a re-hash of what we've seen before. Now I'm starting to doubt the validity of the reports that Metallo and General Lane are the main villains. I'm sure someone will quickly point out that Joker, Two-Face, Bane and Catwoman have been used in the previous Batman franchise and I'll give you that. It's just that I understood that Zach Snyder wanted to stay away from the Christopher Reeve's version, but it doesn't seem that way. I guess we just need to keep an open mind.

Immortals Trailer

Henry (Superman) Cavill's next film...It also stars Mickey Rourke, John Hurt, Freida Pinto and Stephen Dorff

A Rebooted, Post-Apocalyptic Zorro?

Apparently, we will have a Zorro reboot in the future, that takes place in the future. The LA Times is reporting that Fox is developing Zorro Reborn that takes place in a post-apocalyptic western that would be compared to a Sergio Leone (The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly; Once Upon a Time in the West).

The script was written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the screenwriters behind the Dracula reboot Harker. Rpin Suwannath has been picked to direct the film (his first film). His credits are mainly visual effects (just like Deadpool's Tim Miller), but has second unit experience on two of the The Chronicles of Narnia films.

This goes back to what I was saying a couple of weeks back about westerns. Why trick them up? Can't a traditional Zorro film work? I liked Mask of Zorro with Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins. I didn't care for the sequel. Why not reboot and do the classic character? You make him dark (a la Batman), ok - not a problem for me. I have a concern about a Mad Max version of the character. It could be worse - look at the Don Quixote version version of Lone Ranger we are going to get from Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp.

Arnold Told Us He'll Be Back (So We Were Warned).

Deadline is reporting that the former Governor of California is returning to one of the franchises that made him a star. He will be in Terminator 5, which is currently looking for a home. The article also said that Justin Lin, director of the last Fast and Furious movies, is set to direct.

Quite honestly, I'm speechless. I have not seen Terminator 3, nor Terminator Salvation. I frankly didn't want to. I felt that the story had a perfect ending with T2: Judgement Day. I was kinda interested in Salvation, since I can look at it as a pseudo-prequel to the first, but I'm sure that wasn't it's intent. T3 told me that everyone's sacrifice in the previous movies were for nothing. Skynet was going to take over the world anyway. Anyway, we'll see how this works out.

Bratpack Coming to a Theater Near You in 2012

No, I'm not talking about the group of actors from the 1980s, I'm talking about the mini-series from the the early 90s written by Rick Veitch. Justin Rhodes has signed on to write the screenplay. His writing credits include Contract Killers and Grassroots (with writer/director Stephen Gyllenhaal). Yeah, not familiar with the guy either.

According to Bleeding Cool, this is the plot blurb that is being used...

The Black October Superheroes are costumed vigilantes that guard the citizens of Slumberg, PA with an iron fist. When their teenage sidekicks (the eponymous “Brat Pack”) are murdered by the evil Doctor Blasphemy, the Supers recruit a new team of wunderkinds. It is not long, however, before the cadets discover the dark side of super: if they want to save the city, they must first save themselves.

I remember reading this A LONG time ago, and being a little disturbed about it, but thought it was a good book. After the success of Kick Ass comic and movie, I can see them being encouraged to do this movie.

The Lord of the Rings Extended Versions on the Big Screen!

TheOneRing.net is reporting that the extended editions of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy will be released at AMC theaters this summer. Here are the dates:

The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition) - June 14th

The Two Towers (Extended Edition) - June 21st

The Return of the King (Extended Edition) - June 28th

While this is cool, I'm trying to figure out what the reasoning is here. It can't be to generate excitement for The Hobbit (part 1). That won't come out until December of 2012. They should spread these out every couple of months or so, that way The Return of the King would be out - what September of 2012 - a couple of months before the new movie. I dunno. They didn't ask me.

Green Lantern Character Posters Revealed, Additional Funding to Movie's Visual Effects

Here are one sheets featuring Hal Jordan, Sinestro, Tomar-Re and Kilowog from the upcoming Green Lantern movie. I like these overall, but still have problems with Hal's mask.

In related news, Warner Brothers is pouring in an additional $9 million to get the visual effects just right in time for the June 17th release. The Variety article also mentioned that visual effects team working on Transformers: Dark of the Moon spent the Easter weekend working, while Chris Evans and Samuel L. Jackson were shooting scenes for the Captain America movie. The Transformers movie is to be released July 1st and Captain America: The First Avenger will come out July 22nd.

Press Relase Regarding the Start of Production on the Avengers

This press release was sent out yesterday...

Production has commenced today in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios' highly anticipated movie "Marvel's The Avengers," directed by Joss Whedon ("Serenity") from a screenplay by Whedon. The film will continue principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City. Robert Downey, Jr. ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2") returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth ("Thor") as Thor, Chris Evans ("Captain America: The First Avenger") as Captain America, Jeremy Renner ("Thor," "The Hurt Locker") as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo ("The Kids Are Alright") as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson ("Iron Man 2") as Black Widow, Clark Gregg ("Iron Man," "Thor") as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2") as Nick Fury. Set for release in the US on May 4, 2012, "Marvel's The Avengers" is the first feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009.

Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in "Iron Man," "The Incredible Hulk," "Iron Man 2," "Thor," and "Captain America: The First Avenger," "Marvel's The Avengers" is the super hero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1963, "Marvel's The Avengers" brings together the mightiest super hero characters as they all assemble together on screen for the first time. The star studded cast of super heroes will be joined by Cobie Smulders ("How I Met Your Mother) as Agent Maria Hill of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Tom Hiddleston ("Wallander") and Stellan SkarsgÄrd ("Angels & Demons," "Mamma Mia!") who will both reprise their respective roles as Loki and Professor Erik Selvig from the upcoming Marvel Studios' feature "Thor."

"Marvel's The Avengers" is being produced by Marvel Studios' President, Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Louis D'Esposito, Patty Whitcher, and Jon Favreau. Marvel Studios' Jeremy Latcham and Victoria Alonso will co-produce.

The creative production team also includes Oscar nominated director of photography Seamus McGarvey ("Atonement"), production designer James Chinlund ("25th Hour"), Oscar winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne ("Elizabeth: The Golden Age"), Oscar winning visual effects supervisor Janek Sirrs ("Iron Man 2," "The Matrix"), visual effects producer Susan Pickett ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2"), stunt coordinator R.A. Rondell ("Superman Returns"), and four-time Oscar nominated special effects supervisor Dan Sudick ("Iron Man," "War of the Worlds"). The editors include Oscar nominated Paul Rubell ("Collateral") and Jeffrey Ford ("Crazy Heart").

Marvel Studios most recently produced "Iron Man 2" which was released in theatres on May 7, 2010. The sequel to "Iron Man," starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow as well as Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke, took the number one spot its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million. To date the film has earned over $620 million in worldwide box office receipts.

In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies, "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk." "Iron Man," in which Robert Downey, Jr. originally dons the super hero's powerful armor alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008 and was an immediate box office success. Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million its opening weekend and grossed over $571 million worldwide. On June 13, 2008, Marvel released "The Incredible Hulk" marking its second number one opener of that summer. The spectacular revival of the iconic green goliath grossed over $250 million in worldwide box office receipts.

Well, I guess we know which Super Hero movie will come out Free Comic Book Day weekend of 2012. Are you excited about this? Concerned? Meh?

Something Good is Coming Out of the Spider-Man and Charlie Sheen Fiascos - They Are Fodder for Episodes of L&O:CI

Spider-Man: Turn of the Dark musical and the antics of Charlie Sheen are being used as inspiration for future episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

The first episode deals with a death of an actor during a show called Icarus. The director of the show is “high-strung and larger-than-life” and a "secretly bisexual rock-star composer who’s cheating on the missus with a colleague." Wow, is that supposed to be ex-director Julie Taymor and U2 frontman Bono?

The other episode has Jay Mohr playing a “lovable rogue” Nyle Brite, who has a reputation for cocaine use, parties, and women. The episode will focus on a murder of a guest at Brite's home.

Adams Returns to Marvel, the Avengers

Brian Michael Bendis has announced via Twitter that legendary artist Neal Adams will team up with him to do New Avengers issue #16.1. Marvel SVP of Publishing Tom Brevoort said "We’ve been speaking with Neal about doing a project with us, and he’s also going to be contributing an assortment of covers throughout the line. So you’ll be seeing Neal’s work at Marvel again in the near future." The artist is currently writing and drawing his own project for DC - Batman: Odyssey.

For those that aren't aware of the Marvel: Point One initiative, it's touted as the perfect jumping on points for new readers. From Marvel's website: "select Marvel comic series marked with a ".1" after the issue number feature full-length, self-contained stories by Marvel's top creators, laying the groundwork for the next year of storylines."

Ian Holm to Returns to the Shire

Peter Jackson has confirmed from his Facebook page that Ian Holm will return to play Bilbo Baggins for The Hobbit. The assumption is that Holm will appear in framing sequences writing the tale, while Martin Freeman will be playing the younger Bilbo. This makes sense, and since they have gone out of the way to bring back everybody who was in The Lord of the Rings movies (including characters who were not mentioned in the book), this was a no-brainer. Glad to see him back. I like the actor, even as the evil android Ash in Ridley Scott's Alien.

Sweet Christmas! Isaiah Mustafa Wants to Play Luke Cage

In an exclusive interview with SuperHero Hype, Isaiah Mustafa (best known as "the Old Spice guy") says he's talked about bringing the ex-Hero for Hire, current leader of the New Avengers to the big screen.

But why Cage? "Luke Cage has a lot going on. He's this man, he's got all these powers and abilities and he can use them to save whatever major city, but instead of doing that he uses them to help Harlem. He wants to fix his neighborhood, and that's what's so admirable to me. Instead of leaving and going someplace bigger, he stays right where he needs to be and tries to do the best that they can."

Apparently, he is a comic reader as well. "They're in storage and I don't read them. I need to go and take a look at them, but I have all my comic books. The problem is that they take up space now. Now that you have an iPad,, you can download these comics on your iPad. At one point in time I had I-don't-know-how-many of those long boxes - I think it was just under ten long boxes. I was well into the teens with the short ones. Then after a while there were shoeboxes full of different comics. I have tons of them. To go through them is pointless, to change the bags on them is pointless because what happens is that you get three into it and you go, 'Oh, yeah,' and you start reading. Then you can never finish doing it. It's always a labor of love, like, 'I could go do this or that - but damn it!'"

So, what do you think? Would me make a good Luke Cage? Do you want to see a Luke Cage movie? There was talk of a Iron Fist movie a while back with Ray (Darth Maul) Park in the lead. Maybe go and do a Heroes for Hire movie? Hmmm...

Is a S.H.I.E.L.D. Movie Possibe?

Is it possible that we could see a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, according to Spinoff Online, yes. They are already planning sequels to Cap, Thor, and Iron Man, but it's possible to see adventures of Sam Jackson as Nick Fury. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige...

“Thor will go off into a new adventure, and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own. We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film — Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. — all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films. And, we’ve got a lot of other characters we’re prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr. Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined.”

What do you think? Do you want to see Sam "Action" Jackson battling HYDRA or A.I.M? I for one would.

R.I.P. Sarah Jane Smith

Word has come that Elisabeth Sladen has passed away at the age of 63. She is best known as Sarah Jane Smith, the companion to the third (John Pertwee) and fourth (Tom Baker) Doctor Who. She joined the BBC show in 1973 and left in 1976. She returned to the character several times over the years, most recently in the spinoff, The Sarah Jane Adventures. Bleeding Cool is reporting that most of series five has been shot to be aired this fall.

Our hearts and thoughts go to her friends, family and fans of both shows.

UPDATE: I had found out that Ms. Sladen had been battling cancer for a period of time. Here are tributes to Elisabeth from the Doctor Who family.

Gordon-Levitt, Cotillard's Roles in The Dark Knight Rises Revealed

Well, after ALL the speculation, we finally find out the roles that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard will be playing in the next Batman movie - The Dark Knight Rises.

Gordon-Levitt, who has been linked to everything from the Joker, the Riddler, Robin, to Alberto Falcone will actually be playing John Blake, "a Gotham beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner James Gordon," according to several sites including Comic Book Resources. Cotillard will be playing Miranda Tate - a "Wayne Enterprises board member who's eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father's philanthropic work," not Talia al Ghul as was the popular thought.

I'm just glad the guessing is over. This was getting VERY OLD, reading who was playing who. Let's just get the movie made and out in the theaters please. Thank you. :)

Green Lantern #65 & Green Lantern Corps #59 Covers (SPOILERS!!!)

The covers for Green Lantern #65 and Green Lantern Corps #59 have been released. WTF??? OH WOW! Didn't expect this! Both issues will be released tomorrow (4/20/2011).

Robocop Meets the Terminator!!!

Official Press Release

The ultimate killing machine meets the future of law enforcement. In the Terminator's future all humanity must be wiped out, so when Robocop is woken from an enforced hibernation, Alex Murphy finds himself amongst the final hunted. But will his body side with Skynet? Or can man finally overcome machines? Rising star Rob Williams (Ghost Rider, Punisher Max: Get Castle) and P.J. Holden (Battlefields, Judge Dredd for 2000 AD), create the ultimate tale of life and death for humanity in Terminator/Robocop: Kill Human #1 this July from Dynamite Entertainment!

"I'm hugely excited to bring together two much loved Hollywood war machines in the ultimate mash-up of action sequences, satire and very heavy metal," says writer Rob Williams. "What makes for a stronger machine? The desire to uphold the law or the desire to wipe out humanity? We're going to find out!"

"As someone who grew up on a strict diet of 80s/90s machismo and robot laced action movies (not to mention the dark humour of 2000AD) - Robocop/Terminator is dream project for me," says artist P.J. Holden. "I've known Rob for years, and it's a real pleasure to finally work with him. I look forward to drawing many, many, things being blown up while I speak all the dialogue to myself in a faux Ahnuld accent (even the dialogue that isn't supposed to be)."

"We've been fans of Rob's writing for years, and he's proven himself with an excellent Robocop run for Dynamite," says Dynamite President and Publisher Nick Barrucci. "While we're saddened that he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, we're very happy for him and his success. It reinforces that we worked with such a great writer. But Rob has written one more excellent story for us, and we're sure that the fans will agree! And working with P.J., whose body of work says it all, is perfect to help ensure that this story sure to be a timeless tale."

"Rob and PJ bring a fresh, wonderful sensibility to both of these characters and each, in their own way, inject a serious amount of "soul" into these two machines and their worlds," says Dynamite Editor Joe Rybandt. "Well, that and all the guns and killing."

Smallville Finale Trailer

Robert Zemeckis Wants to Know "How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack."

Robert Zemeckis has agreed to produce the adaptation of the humor-reference guide book How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack Variety reports. The film is being developed as an R-rated live-action/CG-hybrid, however no scriptwriter has been named yet. Zemeckis has not agreed to be the director of the film. Here's a description of the book...

The first and only full-color survival guide on how to prevent, prepare for, and ward off a home invasion by garden gnomes.

Move over zombies and adolescent vampires, there’s a new threat in town—and it’s about three feet tall. The common garden gnome, a deceptively benign lawn ornament, has been gathering momentum as a cultural icon —and suburban guerilla. Fortunately, Gnome Defense Expert (GDE) Chuck Sambuchino offers a proven three-step strategy (Assess, Protect, Defend, or APD) for safeguarding possessions, pets, and loved ones from a gnome home invasion. The book includes schematics for gnome-proofing your dwelling, instructions for confrontations at close range, correct gnomenclature, case histories of human vs. gnome clashes, and innovative ideas for rebuilding in the aftermath of a successful attack.

This could be a very funny movie, if handled properly....

The Dark Knight Returns...Animated Movie?

Bleeding Cool is reporting that they learned from several sources that DC Animated is working on an adaptation of the Frank Miller classic Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. No release date is known, but I expect sometime next year since DC has already announced their first animated movie for 2012 will be JLA: Doom (tentative title).

The site does say "According to our sources, several veterans of Batman toons past will be on the crew list, though we’re still trying to confirm who is writing and directing the film."

So what do you think about this? Should this mini series be made into an animated movie? If yes, who should be in it? Kevin Conroy? Bruce Greenwood? Someone else?

First Look at Terry Moore's Next Project

Terry Moore (Strangers in Paradise, Echo) has posted the cover of the first issue of his next project - Rachel Rising. The writer/artist will finish up Echo with #30 that will be released this month. The new series starts in July.

When he announced the project on his website last month, this is how he revealed the premise...

Rachel Beck wakes on damp, soft dirt. Sitting up, she sees a foot sticking up from the ground in front of her. She is sitting on somebody. She is sitting on a shallow grave. Rolling onto her knees she claws the dirt away. It is the body of a woman much like her. The clothes are like hers. The face… it’s her. Dead.

I'm excited about this series. Terry Moore is a great writer and artist. I highly recommend getting the first trade of either Strangers in Paradise or Echo. You won't regret it.

Images of Josh Brolin as Young Agent K

Images have hit the net showing Josh Brolin portraying Agent K in the third installment of the Men in Black franchise. The story involves Agent J (Will Smith) going back in time and encounters Agent K in that time period. Don't worry, Tommy Lee Jones is in the movie as well.

What do you think? Looks very similar. Great job by all involved. The question is will we see this movie? The filming has been on hiatus since before Christmas due to scripts rewrites (or writes - I've heard the script was never really completed). The movie is scheduled for release May 23 of next year. You can see more pictures on the Daily Mail website. But here's a couple more...

Dragonriders Get a Writer

David Hayter (X-Men 2, Watchmen) has been hired to adapt Dragonflight, the first in the series of Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern books to film.

Production is scheduled to begin early next year, although two large pieces of the puzzle have yet to fall into place. There is no director attached, and no one has yet to claim the US distribution, which may be a very large piece of the pie.

The story follows an elite group of warriors who soar to the skies on the back of giant, fire-breathing, telepathic dragons. The warriors have to fulfill a quest: save the planet of Pern from a terrifying airborne menace.

MGM Wants WHO to Play Robocop????

Several websites refer to Moviehole for this information. Apparently, MGM is looking for a big name for their Robocop remake. The names that Moviehole is hearing includes Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Keanu Reeves to play Murphy/Robocop. To their credit, the site begs them to go with an unknown and I agree. I don't see any of them doing it, epecially with their face being partially covered most of the time. Robocop has to wear the helmet. Go the Superman route - unknown in the lead, better known actors in the supporting roles, and most importantly - A GREAT SCRIPT! MGM, please don't mess this up. You literally can't afford it!

A Better Look at the CGI Green Lantern Costume

The Daily Blam posted three images of Ryan Reynolds in the CGI Green Lantern costume. So...what do you think?

Pictures of Batman Live Cast!

We're finally seeing the cast of the Batman Live show which starts it's tour in the UK at the end of August. Here's a synopsis of the show...

Faithfully adapted from the DC Comics characters and stories, BATMAN LIVE focuses on Robin's quest for justice, which leads him to follow in the footsteps of his hero, the mysterious vigilante known as the Batman - much to the dismay of his protective guardian, millionaire Bruce Wayne - who secretly happens to be Batman.

A dazzling celebration of storytelling and stagecraft, BATMAN LIVE is at
its heart an affecting coming of age story. Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson - both orphaned at an early age - must first learn to overcome their own fears and forge their own family - along with Police Commissioner James Gordon and Bruce's trusted butler, Alfred Pennyworth - if they're going to survive the combined forces of Batman's larger-than-life rogues gallery: The Joker, The Penguin, Catwoman, The Riddler, Two-Face, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.

So what do you think? Will this work? Or are we looking at a DC version of Turn off the Dark?
