David Lapham's FERALS Unleashed in January

Avatar Press announced a new series by David Lapham (STRAY BULLETS, CROSSED) titled FERALS. The artwork will be done by Gabriel Andrade (LADY DEATH). FEARLS is about an idyllic town surrounded by a new breed of werewolves.

“It starts with small town people with their own little Peyton Place dynamic and a small town cop named Dale Chesnutt, who is a charmer, a womanizer, a screw-up,” says Lapham.  “He suddenly is hit by the ‘stray bullets’ and finds himself in a whole new world that’s plenty dark and twisted.”

“This isn’t a take on the mystical werewolf, full moon and all that.  The classic werewolf is about a monster, a monster story.  FERALS is a drama and a noir where being feral is a very real thing.  This is about a different kind of person.  A person who is feral could be your neighbor and you wouldn’t know it; he doesn’t change when he’s pissed or when the moon is full. Ferals are real and have their own culture, their own thoughts, history, and plans.”

The book will be in stores early January 2012. Here are the other covers for issue #1...

ANIMAL MAN #1 Gets Third Printing

DC Comic's ANIMAL MAN #1 joins the third printing club. The other members include: SWAMP THING, DETECTIVE COMICS, ACTION COMICS, BATGIRL, and JUSTICE LEAGUE (the only member of the fourth printing club... so far). This is what writer Jeff Lemire had to say ...

“I can’t express how happy I am with the success of Animal Man, its a book I care deeply about. Travel Foreman, Lovern Kindzierski and I are pouring our hearts into each issue and it’s a real thrill to see so many people responding. Scott Snyder and I just got back from New York where we had a series of meetings with editor Joey Cavalieri, Group Editor Matt Idelson as well as Bob Harras and Eddie Berganza. We laid out our ambitious plans for both Animal Man and Swamp Thing, and I think I can safely say that no one will be able to guess what’s coming next. We have a huge story planned that’s filled with adventure, horror and drama. The Baker family is in for quite a ride, and I hope all the fans and readers will stick around to see what we have planned!”

No word on when this printing will be in stores.

A Review: FLESH & BLOOD Book I

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain advance copies of Monsterverse’s latest project - FLESH AND BLOOD Book One.  Robert Tinnell (writer and director of KIDS OF THE ROUND TABLE and FRANKENSTEIN AND ME) pens the graphic novel, with illustrations by Neil Vokes (FROM THE VAULT: DOCTOR STRANGE #1, ADVENTURES OF THE MASK). Both have worked together before on THE BLACK FOREST and THE WICKED WEST.
After the killing of the vampire Carmilla Karnstein, a team forms to battle Dracula and the forces of evil. In the group are two recognizable names, one a famous doctor, the other a medical student who will have further run-ins with the Prince of Darkness.

Vokes’ art and Tinnell’s writing captures the beauty, horror, sexiness, and mystery of the classic Hammer horror films. FLESH AND BLOOD is literally a love letter to those films. The cover by Dan Brereton (NOCTURNALS, THRILLKILLER) is the icing on the cake.

Also included is a story called OPERATION SATAN,  written by Tinnell with art by Bob Hall. In addition, a pinup gallery features the art of David Michael Beck, Adrian Salmon, Michael Oeming, Dan Gallagher Jr., and Mark Wheatly.  Volkes’ character sketch gallery is included as well.

If you like classic horror, this is your book. FLESH AND BLOOD comes out this Wedenesday October 26. Monsterverse also publishes BELA LUGOSI’S TALES FROM THE GRAVE.

Stephen King, George Romero Won't Be Involved With AMC's THE WALKING DEAD

Several reports have come out saying that Stephen King and his son Joe Hill (Locke & Key) were offered a chance to write a season two or three episode of AMC's THE WALKING DEAD, while George Romero was offered a chance to direct an episode or two. All three turned down the offer. Why? Could it be related to what happened to show-runner Frank Darabont?

Romero said that he loves the Image comics and he loves Darabont's work, but "my zombies are sort of my own. I didn't want to be part of it." Meanwhile, King made no bones about his reason. According to Bleeding Cool, the chances of that happening disappeared when Darabont "left" the show.

So, is the show in danger? With the visionary man being fired, the budget cut in half, and legendary creators of horror saying "thanks but no thanks," it is not encouraging.  The ratings for the season premiere were good (#2 for the week ending 10/16), let's see if they stay there.

The Enterprise Crew Meets the Legion of Super-Heroes!

The Legion of Super-Heroes encounters the classic Star Trek crew in a new six issue mini series from IDW and DC Comics.

“Nothing like kicking off our first foray into DC Comics’ Super Heroes with a story that spans dimensions and centuries,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief and the lead editor on this crossover. “As a huge fan of both of these teams and the eras we’re playing with here, as well as an admirer of the talents involved with this tale, I couldn't be happier.”

“It’s great to be working with IDW on this ground-breaking new comic series that combines two beloved franchises, especially considering the history Star Trek comic books have both with DC Comics and my previous imprint, WildStorm,” stated Jim Lee, co-publisher of DC Entertainment.

The crew of the Enterprise beam down to a planet only to find out that not only are they on the right planet, but not the right universe. Meanwhile the Legionaires from the classic "Great Darkness Saga" travel to the 23rd Century, only to find out it's not their universe.

The mini series is written by Chris Roberson (SUPERMAN, iZOMBIE) with art by Jeffery and Phillip Moy. The covers are by Phil Jimenez, with variants by Keith Giffen, Mike Grell, Steve Lightle, and Gabriel Rodriguez.

Issue #1 is out in comic book stores now.

David Hine, Jeremy Haun Reunite on THE DARKNESS

David Hine (THE BULLETPROOF COFFIN, DISTRICT X) and Jeremy Haun (NEW EXCALIBUR, ARKHAM REBORN) reunite to take over THE DARKNESS from writer Phil Hester (WONDER WOMAN) begining with issue #101. The duo had worked before on DETECTIVE COMICS #864-870.

“From issue # 101, I'll be the regular writer on THE DARKNESS, one of the best and longest-running independent books out there. I'll be teamed with Jeremy Haun, one of the most talented artists I've worked with. And I'm dreading it!” said Hine. “To write a character like Jackie Estacado you have to go into some very dark and ugly places on a daily basis. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it...”

“I couldn’t have been more excited when I found out we were able to get David on THE DARKNESS long term. He is one of those writers that perfectly balances story with character. He understands the inner workings of his characters and really knows how to tap into their darkness, if you’ll forgive the pun,” explained Haun. “I’ve wanted to have an extended run on a series for years now, THE DARKNESS is the perfect place for me to do that. David and I are working hard to build a story that is true to the property, but at the same time, really kicks up the horror elements of the book.”

THE DARKNESS #101 is scheduled for a March 2012 release.

Lindsay Lohan's Biography Comic Book "INFAMOUS" Released as Lohan Returns to Jail

Official Press Release

LINDSAY LOHAN’S BIOGRAPHY COMIC BOOK "INFAMOUS" RELEASED AS LOHAN RETURNS TO JAIL

As Lindsay Lohan returns to prison for probation violations, the biography comic book following her rollercoaster life is hitting comic book stores as both a traditional printed issue and a digital download tomorrow.

“Infamous: Lindsay Lohan,” follows the troubled actresses’ life who is now more famous for her off-screen exploits than anything she has done in movies. The issue, currently available at various book stores and comic book shops is also available for download on the Nook and Kindle through Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com respectively.

“This issue can be seen as a tragedy in motion; its last chapter has yet to be written,” said Bluewater president Darren G. Davis. “Lohan is both a victim of the all-consuming celebrity culture and a perpetrator of bad decisions, the lack of self-control and an unhealthy sense of entitlement.”

According to Bluewater, Lohan was on the fast rack to superstardom until her wild lifestyle, dysfunctional family dynamic and multiple run-ins with the law derailed her career. The issue does not concentrate solely on the scandalous aspects of her life, but rather, tries to illustrate how she arrived at this point.

Lohan, who was earlier today was led back to prison in handcuffs for problems with her community service commitment, is the second notorious celebrity featured in Bluewater’s latest biography comic venture “Infamous”.  A biography on actor Charlie Sheen hit shelves in August.  Both issues are written by freelance journalist and author Mark Shapiro.

According to Shapiro, the book is not all about the salacious headlines, mug shots and outrageous behavior, but tries to examine the underlying causes of Lohan’s inability to “straighten out her life.”

Additionally, “Infamous: Lindsay Lohan” marks the American debut of one of Japan’s leading manga artists Mimei Sakamoto, who illustrated the 32-page issue.

“I wish to expand my career and spread Japanese manga culture. I am keen to
work directly with an American publisher to make more people aware of mangastyle, and I am particularly interested to learn from many of America's attractive women,” said Sakamoto.“Infamous: Lindsay Lohan,” features cover art by famed comic book artist Joe Phillips.

The issue will retail for $3.99 and be available through most online venues like Amazon.com as well as local comic book stores.
